Vietnam War Veteran's Memoir Wins National Recognition Bill Strusinski's Care Under Fire Has Been Named Best Military Non-Fiction Book of the Year. Strusinski did such a good job of transferring the raw emotion of what he went through from his psyche to his memoir, Care Under Fire, published by Calumet Editions of Minneapolis, has now won two national and one state book awards. The National Indie Excellence Awards has recognized Care Under Fire as the Best Military Non-Fiction Book of the year in its 15th annual contest. In addition, the Next Generation Indie Book Awards named it a finalist in the category, Memoirs (Overcoming Adversity/Tragedy). The book is also a recipient of the 2020 Veterans Voices Award from the Minnesota Humanities Center. Strusinski said, " I am humbled and proud to receive these prestigious recognitions, however these awards belong to all veterans who served in Vietnam.
